Do I Need My iPhone to Start a Round?
Yes. Your iPhone is required to start a round unless your Apple Watch has its own cellular connection.
When starting a round, the Apple Watch app communicates with the Shot Scope mobile app to verify your account and download the course information.
How Close Does My iPhone Need to Be?
Your iPhone should be within approximately 10 metres (33 feet) of your Apple Watch when you start a round.
Once the round has started, you can continue playing without needing to interact with your iPhone.
What If I Have a Cellular Apple Watch?
If you have an Apple Watch with an active cellular plan, you can start a round without your iPhone nearby, as the watch can communicate using its own mobile data connection.
Please note that simply owning a Cellular Apple Watch isn't enough—the watch must have an active cellular data plan with your network provider.
Best Practice Before You Tee Off
For the best experience, we recommend:
- Opening the Shot Scope app on your iPhone.
- Opening the Shot Scope app on your Apple Watch.
- Keeping your iPhone within 10 metres of your watch while starting the round.
- Waiting for the course to load before teeing off.
Following these steps helps ensure the course loads correctly and any course updates are transferred before play begins.
